Prof. Robert Perrons

Chief Executive Officer

Rob is the CEO and founder of EMSat, and a professor at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane, Australia. Prior to joining QUT in 2011, Rob worked in a wide variety of roles and locations around the world for Shell International’s Exploration & Production division, and served as the Executive Coordinator of Global Research & Development in the company’s headquarters in the Netherlands.

He has a B.Eng. in mechanical engineering from McMaster University in Canada, a Master’s degree in Technology & Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a PhD in engineering from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Gates Cambridge Scholar. Rob was named as a Fulbright Scholar in 2020, serves as a board member on several clean energy technology startups around the world, advises the Australian Government as a member of its Expert Network on matters related to innovation and emerging technologies in the energy and resource sectors, and is a member of the United Nations Expert Group for Energy and Resources.

Thomas Dougherty

Ambassador of the USA (Retired)

Ambassador (ret) Thomas Dougherty has been the Warburg Chair in International Relations at Simmons University in Boston since July 2021. A career Foreign Service Officer for more than 27 years, he served in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Australia, and Washington. He was U.S. Ambassador to Burkina Faso, and served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Australia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Malawi. Other overseas assignments were in Senegal, Saudi Arabia, Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), Eritrea, Germany, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and Iraq, where he was Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs. In Washington, he served as Director of West African Affairs and acting Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Africa Bureau.

Upon retiring from the U.S. State Department, he was Executive Director of the Australian-American Fulbright Commission from 2016-2021. A Fulbright awardee himself in Indonesia and Singapore earlier in his career, he has taught at the University of Wyoming and at international schools in Belgium and Switzerland. A graduate of Brown University, he did postgraduate work in Italy and California. He is a member of the American Academy of Diplomacy and the Washington Institute of Foreign Affairs, and is a board member of AGE (Advancing Girls Education) Africa.

Lisa A. Jaster

U.S. Army Reserve – Lieutenant Colonel, Engineer

Lisa Jaster is a U.S. Army Reserve lieutenant colonel, combat engineer, and one of the first three women ever to graduate from the elite U.S. Army Ranger program, widely considered to be one of the most difficult combat training courses in the world. Lisa was also the first ever reservist to complete the Ranger program. She previously served multiple tours of duty around the world in several locations such as Iraq and Afghanistan, earning numerous military accolades along the way, including two Bronze Star medals and the Meritorious Service Medal.


A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Lisa holds a BS and MS in Civil Engineering. She worked with the Shell Oil Company in the U.S. as a project manager and construction engineer for 12 years before serving as the Director of Civil Engineering for M&S Engineering. She is currently a partner in The Talent War Group, a management consulting and executive search firm where she focuses her efforts on training management teams, executive coaching, and keynote speaking.

Prof. Alex Slocum

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Alex is the Walter M. May & A. Hazel May Professor of Mechanical Engineering at MIT. He has published more than 150 papers, and has been issued over 100 patents. Alex’s work covers a diverse range of interests that includes energy and water systems. He regularly works with companies on the development of new products, and has been significantly involved with the invention and development of 11 products that have been awarded R&D 100 awards. Alex is a Fellow of the ASME and the recipient of the Society of Manufacturing Engineer’s Frederick W. Taylor Research Medal, ASME Leonardo da Vinci Award, the ASME Machine Design Award, and the Association of Manufacturing Technology Charlie Carter Award.
